Cannot Install Operating System.

hello,
i'm use laptop compaq PP2140, i replace Hard Drive 80GB, after i install Hard Drive i cannot install Operating System, i use windows xp. when i install windows xp, error mssg c000021 hard error. please help me. i dont know what to do..

when does the error occur? can you detail to me the steps you did prior to the error? how many attempts have you tried doing this?

Does the bios recognize the HD? I recommend taking out the HD is re-seating it again. Hope this will help out solve your issues.

I am no pro in this but try 2 find any one of the 2 things in yr bios settings-actually I cant remember properly- so I am giving a rough idea.
1. on startup go to bios settings (press del on startup). surf through and find something written as enable SCSI or SATA or something like that which is a term related to hard disks - i cant remember properly- DISABLE it. save and exit. yr xp should install.

2. In same bios settings if something like enable usb mouse or enable ps2 mouse is there then disable it and try. I am not so sure about this.

if this is blank hard drive format it or wipe it clean using other tools like DBAN (see link on my sig) then install XP again.

usually this happens if the XP install media is not original CD as the error points to a corrupt file. try using the original CD. if you are already using the original CD, check for scratches and clean the optic lens of the drive.
