USB Problem with laptop

Hi,

I'm not entirely sure which as to which forum this problem belongs in. So I have an Advent laptop with Windows XP. Today, stupidly I spilt a little bit of juice onto the right side on the laptop where there are two USBS and the battery charging pin. After I did this, I turned the laptop off and dried the side just incase any water had gone in. Anyway, everything seems to be working fine but I keep getting a message which says 'USB port has malfunctioned' and I'm assuming that this was a consequence of the spillage.

Does anyone know how to fix this and is the rest of the laptop going to stay un-damaged?

Thanks :)

Re: USB Problem with laptop

Hi,

how are you with soldering or electronics repair? i ask because you may need to do such for you to repair this kind of problem. you may need to desolder and solder. try cleaning it first. get hold of the service manual for your model and use it to guide you as you disassemble your system. but you have to know what you are doing otherwise the repair attempt will do more harm than good.

if you are uncomfortable doing such, bring it to a local repair shop.
