jerky laptop with battery in

Hi,

My daughter has a acer aspire laptop the other day the lid was slammed shut on it quite hard. now the laptop runs very jerky ie. the mouse pointer stutters when scrolling across the screen, programs take an age to open, it takes a long time to boot, when typing somthing in to a type box there is a massive delay before the characters are displayed on screen amongs other things. if i take the battery out and plug the laptop in everything works fine. i know this probably points to the battery being damaged but at £50 for a new one i don't want to buy one if it could be something else. if the battery is damaged why would it make everything run so slowly even when plugged in with the battery inserted.

thanks for any help in advance

Re: jerky laptop with battery in

oh yeah.. about the battery... sometimes the battery have weird effects on the system. sometimes malfunctioning batteries can even stop your system from powering ON even with AC plugged in. so based on the description, i think and i may be wrong, that it is highly probable.

if you do not want to get a new battery, just have your battery tested in a repair shop or on a similar laptop. if the effect is the same, it could be the battery, if not then it could mean other things in your laptop.
