Erratic mouse pointer

Compaq Presario V2000 laptop; touchpad. Every once in awhile my mouse pointer will go haywire and not do what I tell it. Every time I get close to what I want to click on it jumps across the screen. Any thoughts?

Re: Erratic mouse pointer

hi,

have you checked and tweaked Mouse properties (or may be under Touchpad properties - this i am not sure) in Control Panel?

Re: Erratic mouse pointer

hi,

well there are only few things that might be involved in this. first is the drivers or probably Windows, try reinstalling the drivers (uninstall and install. get the correct drivers from the HP/Compaq website). as for the Windows try a non destructive repair. second is you could have a super sensitive touchpad or may be a malfunctioning one. you can consider reseating the cable for the touchpad (the one connecting it to the motherboard) or replace the palm rest bezel that includes the touchpad itself. the third (and may be a long shot), this is caused by a virus/malware. run some scans (local antivirus or PANDA activescan or similar and SpyBot S&D).

Re: Erratic mouse pointer

I found that the mouse cursor on my Compaq F750US laptop/notebook would become erratic (jumped around, wouldn't respond well) if my ring was near the touchpad. If I moved the hand with the ring away from the touchpad, the erratic behavior ceased.
