HELP!! IBM R30 Fan Error

i am not sure what happened, went to turn my ibm r30 on and it went to post came up with a beep.. beep then it showed "fan error" on the screen and shut itself off. i took the heatsink/fan out and put it into another system and it worked fine. can anyone help me figure this out?

maybe the paste needed re-doing
you will need to clean it off and apply new anyway now
so you soon see if that was the problem

uhh,,,,,, no it would not be a paste issue because the fan kicks on as soon as you hit the power button when i put it in another laptop.
but thank you for the idea. so i know the fan is good. it is an issue in the laptop not the fan. :)

we all know the fan is controlled by the motherboard. in fact it plugs in directly on the board. the error being shown during startup may point to a malfunctioning motherboard... or a defective connection (cold solder?)

you said you tried that fan on another laptop may be you can use that laptop's fan fan on your laptop. if the error is the same it means the motherboard has some problems and may need repair or replacement.
