Hello
I have a strange query that I thought someone may be able to tell me more about, concerning a laptop my friend is using. We have a Dell Latitude X1 that is used both in and out of his office when working from home. The time the laptop takes to boot and log on seems to take much longer when the laptop is not being used from his workplace. At work he is connected to a network for all of his networked drives and shared drives by Ethernet cable, but the laptop logs on without the network. We thought that this might be the problem and that it is affected because he is not connected to that network. We tested that theory, but the laptop starts up fine whether it is connected to the network or not. But still takes a long time from home etc... Disk Clean-up and Defragment have been done and have not made a difference, and there is plenty of space remaining. We are stumped at the moment. There doesn’t seem to be any reason for this to happen at all. The short question may be… The boot\start-up time would not be affected by a local Wireless network would it? Or any other ideas. Many thanks. SWi! Last edited by SWatsi; 05-13-2008 at 07:44 AM. Reason: wording a little off.. |

Re: Laptop Loading Times Differ Greatly on Location??
It is very possible that the computer is trying to log on to a wireless network that is not there at home. I would try completely disabling the wireless and see if it yields the same result both in and out of work.

Re: Laptop Loading Times Differ Greatly on Location??
So it is possible that the laptop is automatically trying to connect to the wireless network straight from boot up. Interesting that it could possibly cause the laptop to load at a significantly slower pace..
Thanks, I will give that a try. |
