hi genes89,

what is your internet connection (DSL, broadband/cable, etc.)? did this happen without warning or error? are you using a router and/or a firewall?

Re: HP dv2000 network problem

genes89,

I'm seeing this problem over and over again - usually with WiFi hardware on laptops running Vista. Disable ALL power-saving features such as suspend or hibernation mode. Don't let the PC manage the power of the WiFI hardware. Make sure you haven't inadvertantly disabled the WiFi hardware with a button on the PC or some hotkey combination.

Have you installed any new software, hardware, drivers or updates recently? Sometimes, Windows installs automatic updates for drivers that end up messing things up. Check this in your control panel - view updates (check this at the top). Have you made any changes to your WiFi router? can other PCs connect to this router? Try connecting to your router via a wired Ethernet connection and see if this works.

Try this stuff and report back.

- John

Re: HP dv2000 network problem

hi,

i believe you are using this laptop together with the PC via the same router. when set as DHCP, do you get an IP assigned (do an IPCONFIG). you may need to run this administrator. post back if IPCONFIG ends in error.

also check this document out if it helps:
