Downgrade to XP Problem

I recently bought T-6815 Laptop from Gateway. I decided to buy a back up hard drive and tried to install XP. Well After having to do some research and a slipped streams XP CD I got all the drivers in I've run into an issue. After the Chipset driver is installed I install the graphics driver and after reboot I get a dim screen. I realized the Power manament that gives you FN+arrow dimming control in not functioning. I also noticed there are 3 missing ACPI drivers in Device Settings. I have talked to Gateway and they dont know if the 60 per hour service can help me, but they still want my money first. Intel hasnt answer me with a helpful answer either. I have tried many Gateway drivers, even one that works on another laptop that has my chipset and graphics. Can anyone help?

Re: Downgrade to XP Problem

hi,

i suggest you install all related drivers first. check device manager to be sure you do not leave out anything not installed. if you are sure you have installed all the drivers and all the Gateway utilities that give you the hotkeys, Function keys, special keys and other special buttons. Like the drivers, these utilities provide the other functionalities like the ones i mentioned.

if there is no XP equivalent to the utilites at the moment, there is no telling if there will be one in the future as these utilities are unique to Gateway laptops. you can try the Vista version which might not work or you remain in Vista if you think these extra functionalities are that important.

Re: Downgrade to XP Problem

If I'm following you correctly, you have a second internal hdd that you want to have in order to put in and run if your original drive dies on you. You may be able to put the original back in and copy the drivers from that one to a cd using a utility like WinDrivers or DoubleDriver or somesuch. Probably more out there, but those two come to mind. Then you could put in the second drive and use the cd to install the drivers. Hope that helps.

Oops, thought it was xp on the original, realized it too late that you are downgrading, sorry.
