Help plz with Toshiba Satellite A10

Hi all,
I hav a Toshiba Satellite A10 PSA10-00Ksgp laptop & am having some major video/display problems, ok here we go doh lol:

( plz bear with me with explaination on this )

Ok i hav windows 2000 installed on it, & what it dose is asks to install video card drivers ( Intel Extreme Graphics 82852/82855 gm/gme ), once the system has finished installing the drivers, the unit reboots & then gose to just a blank screen, u hear windows sound start up & mouse lights up & rom driver spins up, can open & close it, & if i put a cd in, u can hear it spin up & all lights r on & u can see light flickering to something is loading of the cd.

I hav tried newer drivers older drivers, windows 2000,windows xp & windows vista, to no joy nothing, but here is the strangest thing thought, i know everything is working fine, as what i worked out was:

with windows 2000 sp4, that if i load up in safe mode & uninstall the video drivers & reboot system, windows 2000 loads up perfectly & everything works great, except after 5min's or so, windows then asks to restart due to picking up newer video drivers, & then back to square one.

With windows xp & vista, i get nothing at all, all i see & hear with these Os's, is the sound of the drivers loading but hav a blank screen, so dont know where or how far it is in instaling these Os's, in the end i just reboot the unit & it gose back to windows 2000, & time to go through safe mode again to be able to use the laptop for awhile at least.

I hav searched & searched, & can not find any information on this type of problem any where. If needed i will take some picture's tomorrow & show roughly what i am trying to explain here, but hopefully u will follow what i mean.

I hav also tried the function key for the display as well, when i tried to switch to a externel monitor i get nothing at all, no display.

Any help would be prime.
Thankz 4 ur time.

Re: Help plz with Toshiba Satellite A10

hi,

correct me if i misunderstood your description. your issue is that you have screen but only on safe mode. once you install the video drivers, your screen goes blank. when you uninstall the drivers, reboot is ok and screen is ok until it picks up the drivers again.

i hope i got your problem correct. anyway if i may ask, what specific model of Satellite is this (A10-S1001, A10-S129, etc.)? where did you get your drivers from? have you tried getting the drivers from Toshiba website (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...ghdgngdgmn.0)?

i suggest you download and install the one from the Toshiba website and see if it fixes your problem.

Re: Help plz with Toshiba Satellite A10

Hi,
Thankz for the reply, ok my model of laptop is Toshiba Satellite A10 PSA10-00Ksgp, i hav downloaded all the video drivers from Toshiba web site new & old one's, & i hav downloaded all the Intel chipset ones new & old from intel web site.

All of the drivers do the same thing, when i boot into safe mode & uninstall the video drivers & then reboot into normal operating mode, the laptop laods up perfect, until windows detects the new drivers & installs by it's self & then asks to reboot, at this piont if i select NO to reboot, the laptop will run perfectly,as i hav no video card driver installed.

As soon as i select reboot when windows 2000 loads up on video drivers it gose to a blank screen.

I hav tried useing a torch while it is on a blank screen but cant see anything that way.

Thank u 4 ur time.

Re: Help plz with Toshiba Satellite A10

if you have done that several times, try an XP live CD like BART PE XP or a linux live CD. if it works using these other two operating systems, it could be your W2K install that is playing kookie. i suggest you do a fresh install (format the drive) if possible. just backup your files first just in case you will need them in the future. if using a live CD would prove to be showing the same symptoms, it could be your video card or worse the motherboard.

Re: Help plz with Toshiba Satellite A10

most often laptop video cards are integrated especially the older ones. i am not quite familiar with a Toshiba but i assume it is the same. check the specs of your model just to be sure.

one more thing, if using a live CD show that video is working OK. run some tests on your HDD as well (did you already?).

do post back whatever the result..

Re: Help plz with Toshiba Satellite A10

Hi,

Ok i hav tried windows xp live edition, windows vista live edition, hav tried 1 version of linux live( this one locked the laptop completely),all of above went straight to a blank screen, u can hear & see sound lights all going off like normal.

trying a 2nd linux live cd now, ok same thing hear sound, see lights flash & rom drive spin etc, just a plain blank screen doh.

Hav also tried ERD commander 2002 & same thing blank screen, see lights flashing, hear sound & see rom drive spin up.

Hav also changed hard drives in case it was a hard drive problem.

Now i'm complete at a loss, would've thought i could've got at least 1 live edition to boot doh lol.

I think the laptop video may be corrupt or something, not sure as what to do next DOH lol :-((

If it is the video onboard the mortherboard could it be repiared, or would i need to try & find a new motherboard.
cool

Re: Help plz with Toshiba Satellite A10

one last prayer before we call it quits. try the XP live cd again but this time use an external monitor. if there is still nothing on screen, then it could be the motherboard or the video card.
