Laptop does not seem to recharging battery

Hi,

Please help me to overcome with my Laptop’s problem.

I have got HP Pavilion 9646em, AMD Turin 64 x 2 TL 58 Processor, 1.9 GHz, 1600, MHz FSB, 1 MB Cache, 2 GB, 160 GB, Window Vists (R) Home Premium. The laptop is three months old.

My problem is, my Laptop’s battery does not charge and and the icon on the right hand lower side on the screen shows as “power pluged in, not charging”. The light around the small power knob lights but the battery does not charge. Although, if I work with the power knob inserted then the laptop works fine for hours but the power stored level of the battery does not increase.

Once when I drained all the power of the battery, than it started charging & charged to the full 100% level. But when the power meter goes down the meter shows as “plugged in, not charging”. Even when the power goes to 00% than also it does not start charging, until and unless I fully drain it and the laptop switches off itself in lack of power.

I am sending one photo for your perusal.

Thanks

DS Negi

Re: Laptop does not seem to recharging battery

Do you have another spare battery to test on your laptop?

hi DS Negi,

how are you?

in addition to what has been suggested, try your battery on a similar laptop. that would eliminate the possibility that it may be your laptop that is malfunctioning.

also keep your drivers updated, run HP updates as well as Microsoft updates.

Thumbs Up Re: Laptop does not seem to recharging battery

Hi,

Recently I have noticed that when my Laptop gets heat up then it stops charging (I feel so, although it may be wrong) & when it cools down after some time, then it starts charging again, without my doing anything. Is it normal for my laptop or it is malfunctioning ?

I could not find any similar laptop in my friends circle to swap my laptops battery with their laptop's battery.

As suggested by you I have downloaded all the upgrades available for my laptop and operating system i.e. vista home premium.

Thanks in advance for your expert comments in this regard.

Re: Laptop does not seem to recharging battery

just make sure your Automatic update is switched ON in Security Center (in Control Panel).

by default HP updates is already switched on and is automatic.

as for the battery, if you do not have anybody to swap it with for testing, have it tested if there is an HP authorized service provider in your area.

also try draining it to zero and charge it back again. a good battery would start charging as soon as you plug back AC.

Re: Laptop does not seem to recharging battery

Make sure your laptop power wires are connected, i had the same problem on my Presario F557 and when i opened the ram bay one of the power cords were unplugged from the motherboard, plugged it in and its been charging perfectly ever since.
