Cry Haunted Motherboard Problem

Is my computer poorly made? I have an Emachines Laptop W4605 that had a problem that kept coming back. When I was using it a colored screen came up on my computer with colored bars on it. like completley white with silver bars on it and it was different color each time. And when that happened the fan on my mb got really loud like my computer was overheating. so I pulled the batterey out of the back and turned it on again and the same thing happend. And after a while my computer wouldn't even boot. so I called emachines and they fixed my motherboard for free (because it was still under warrany). I got it back and it worked fine for 3 months and I had the same problem again. So I called them and ect. ect. I got it back and worked fine for 3 more months and ect. ect. it Happened again!!! So I called them but this time they got it refurbished. but I still had the same problem after 3 months? I called them after my warranty expired and they said I had to pay 244$ to get it fixed. duh, I'm still having the same problem. So I did some reaserch and found this company in CA that finds the malfunctioning chip on the system board and then they replace them with the american made ones and after that they giv you a 3 month warranty. They found out that it was the video chip and they said I wouldn't have the same problem again. So it got replaced for 227$ But know they said I have to pay 21.10$ for shipping??? I can't decide wether or not to get it shipped back and have a different problem this time. I got my new refurbished system on August 22nd 2007. Should I get a new laptop or keep the one I have? I will be in whoevers debt that can help me. Pleease.

Re: Haunted Motherboard Problem

hi,

repairing a motherboard is really expensive. so is the repair or replacement of a video chip. if you are looking at $200+ price for a repair, i suggest you consider a new one. getting a new one would give you another year of warranty. you also get a system which is faster than your old one. and of course a new one can only cost a little more than what you will be paying for a repair.

my reply was for your question in your initial post (see part of your initial post as quoted above). getting a new one is all up to you.

btw, if you got it August of 2007, it should still have months to go before warranty expiration. i believe laptops have one year warranties.

Re: Haunted Motherboard Problem

Yeah. I Originally bought my system on Dec 05. But when I kept having the same problems They got it refurbished for me on aug 27th 2007. It's practicly brand new. What was causing the problem in the first place anyway.

Re: Haunted Motherboard Problem

based on what you described, it looks like a video chip problem. if the video chip is integrated to the motherboard, you cannot just replace the video chip alone but the whole motherboard. in terms of $, that means expensive, sometimes very expensive to repair/replace.
