[SOLVED] HP pavillion 5430 dvd-rom problem

The dvd-rom in my pavillion is not functioning correctly. It reads DVDs but does not read cdroms or audio cds. Please help.

HP Pavillion 5430
Toshiba dvd-rom sd-c2502

i have so far attempted to uninstall the device and driver and reinstall,
and i cleared the upper and lower filters.

i will include any other relevant information as necessary.

have you tried it on another computer like using a USB external DVD/CD enclosure?

I believe I have corrected the problem, but I have one more hurdle to cross before I am finished.

After searching for hours upon hours I discovered this seems to be an inherent problem with this model cd drive. Anywhere I looked ppl discussed the problem but I discovered no resolution.

In the end what I did was dismantle the laptop and made sure to disconnect the disk drive and floppy drive (floppy wasnt working either). After reassembly drive was reading both cds and dvds. Also floppy was now functioning.

Now my problem is as follows...
Computer wont boot from cd. I have set the boot order up correctly and the computer will boot from the floppy just not the cd drive.

What I want to do is install a fresh copy of XP. I can do a repair installation or upgrade fine.

Does anyone know how I can remedy the drive "or" know of a roundabout way to do the install? I have xp home and pro disk I just cant get them to boot at startup.

hi,
if you are having problems booting from CD drive, i was wondering how you were able to do the repair or upgrade of Windows. did you do the repair from the recovery partition?

I was able to autorun the xp disk after windows was started, it just wouldnt boot at startup. Setting it up this way only allowed me to do a repair or upgrade installation but i wanted to do a fresh install.

After doing some more digging i discovered i was able to install xp from dos mode. All is working now:D I will leave a link to this information for anyone else having problems of this nature...
