Audio/ Video skipping is unbearable.[moved from xp]
I have a 2 year old Sony Vaio, indows XP Home version2002, service pack 2.
Intel Centrino 1.73GHz, 504MB of Ram. This audio skipping started happening after a Disk Defragmentation months back. It skips terribly on start up and when playing a music file, mp3, wma it skips. When trying to watch a video clip of anysort it lags and skips. After video clip is playing for a minute or so it seems to smooth out, unless I try to move the the mouse or adjust volume etc. Music is the same it seems not to skip or slow down if I don't touch or try to move anything on the screen. VERY frustrating. The computer runs prety well. I had a cousin who is good with cleaning computers up, but he could not figure out this audio/ video problem. ANYBODY OUT THERE WHO CAN HELP? ![]()

Hello Calamita
![]() Well, that is very strange. What player are you using? Have you tried different players? Does it happen with all players? Try this player and see what happens

Re: Audio/ Video skipping is unbearable.[moved from xp]
It doesn't seem to matter. Originally I was using the Sonic Stage that was on the Sony computer and now I use the Windows media player and just today I played a song in winamp and it does the same thing. I had my task manager open to see what was happening when a song was playing. Before I open anything computer usage was 0-4% with spikes at about 16%. As soon as I opened up the windows media player it shot right up to 100%. I closed the media player and usage stayed up around 100%. I restarted the computer to see what would happen and when it restarted it was back at 0-4%. I pulled up 1 song in the winamp player and did the same thing and the usage stayed at about 0-7% and without doing anything it spikes at 16-20%. everytime it spikes the sound skips or slows down. ith nothing running but the task manager it still spikes at that same range.????? When on the internet trying to watch a news clip it is sssssskkippppinnnggg. and lagging and then after about a minute or so smooths out...weird

Re: Audio/ Video skipping is unbearable.[moved from xp]
your problem sounds very similar to mine. Usually when I research a problem via internet I use google and open in new tab while using a firefox add-on that enables it to better refine search as you look through results. I'll usually end up with 10 open tabs before I look at the tabs i've opened. As I look at the tabs I copy and paste possible solutions in a txt document.
So far the first idea seems to be the easiest and therefore the first one I'm going to try. In Control Panel go to Advanced Audio Properties then click on Performance and turn down the hardware acceleration. when turning the accelerator down it skips less but at a sacrifice to audio quality? one guy says yes. I hope it works for me. If you want to know any of the other potential solutions i've found: janesnic@gmail.com |

In case you ran into same problem;
I went to control panel then opened sounds and audio devices, then clicked on 'advanced' in the 'speaker settings' part of the window and then clicked on the 'performance' tab. |
