Re: Basic Laptop care?
1) Buy a good bag to protect it while on the move
2) Clean the surface and the LCD screen regularly 3) Don't obtruct the laptop heat dispenser outflow 4) Don't hit, knock the laptop. When putting it down, put it slowly. 5) While there is lighting, unplug your charger cable along with the ethernet cable to reduce the risks of lighting strike 6) Have a proper, good and suitable security system (firewall, anitvirus, spyware monitor) PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need? 10 Commandments of security 7) Watch out what you surf on the web, use FIREFOX broweser or anything but internet explorer 8) Dun drink or place any drink near the laptop (Reduce the risk of u spilling something on the laptop) 9) Regular security scan and updates to make sure you are protected 10) This is debatable however: some ppl think it is better to take out the battery while the laptop is pliugged in while some other dun. They think if u plug it out, it might increase the battry lifespan but then again battery now a days are pretty cheap. And think what will happen if there is a power failure, you laptop will shut down instantly causing more damage to its internal hardware. Most importantly SHUT DOWN the laptop properly

11) Backup regularly (via CD, DVD or external drive). Come hail or high water, nothing beats a good backup. Just remember that these things break no matter how you take care of them. This advise may be way off topic but i added this lest you forget

Re: Basic Laptop care?
I would say - you can't backup too often. Especially if you have school work - backup constantly - or at least put copy on hard-drive and a pen-drive and maybe backup too.
Working on finals - did work on HD did not think needed to backup - had only just begun.... Ha! Was online - computer just died. Motherboard just gave-it-up... Had to retype 4 page report. |

Re: Basic Laptop care?
if you mean the LCD screen, get a cleaning kit from any computer store. CompUsa or OfficeDepot has a complete cleaning kit.
