sata hd
Hi
Would be gratefull if you could help with this problem i have a dell inspiron 1520 laptop with vista on it i want to remove vista from the machine and put on win xp as the laptop is only 6 monts old i removed the 160g sata hd and installed a 120g sata hd here is where the problems start when i start up with the xp install disk in drive oan select boot from cd dvd everything goes fine until reboot on reboot i get a blue scree i think you people call it the blue scree of death Ha would be very thankfull with any help kavdar |

Check your BIOS Setup, when you changed the HD you may need to reset the SATA options. There may be 2 SATA setting menus; one for the drives and one for boot options.
The other thing to try, is to boot to your WinXP Setup CD and see if it sees WinXP already installed. You should get this AFTER you choose to install.

im trying to do the same thing,put in windows xp and dump vista premium but when installing xp it says that its not recognizing the hard drive. i know i need sata drivers but how do you do it without a floppy and how do you know what ones to use? i cant get into the hard drive part of bio's it will only let me go to the time and no further. i would appreciate any help. i canttake vista anymore.

Hi Kavdar,
you mean to say your problem is not that it failed to see the SATA drive but on the blue screen you got on reboot? how many times already have you tried rebooting and still get a blue screen? i suggest you test your RAM. d/load Memtest86+ from my sig and burn the ISO image into CD. boot from that CD as the diags will start automatically. btw you may have to change your boot order in BIOS to make your laptop boot from CD drive. post back what happens...
