How tricky is installing XP over Vista on a laptop?[moved from xp]

Hi,

I want to install windows XP over Vista on a Compaq Presario laptop F500 (less than a year old) and I'm worried about XP drivers and any other problems I might encounter.

How difficult is it?

I’ve installed an operating system before and reformatted the HD on a normal PC - which is what I want to do now, but on a laptop - this sounds dodgy from what I’ve heard so far – xp drivers, sound drivers etc.

Any help appreciated

Compaq Presario F500
nVIDIA C51
high definition audio controller

network adaptor:
broadcom802.11b/g WLAN
NVIDIA nForce networking controller

FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE - so maybe not the final or only authority, ok?
Hate Vista, hate it hate it hate it. It is a mermaid - not enough woman to satisfy, not enough fish to eat.
First - I would not bother with Windows XP (32 bit version based on Windows) but instead go for Win xp pro 64 which is a multiprocessor os, 'standard' xp is NOT and why buy a dual core machine for single core operation?
Had no problems reformatting hard drive (made master install discs first!!!) and installing win xp pro 64. Ran like a scalded dog! BUT - no audio drivers and no videodrivers - basic vga was the max available.
Still searching hoping that pro 64 has enough fans to generate the drivers needed.
PS, this fiasco (fishassco?) was brought to by a collusion between hp and msoft - to make it very very VERY DIFFICULT to install ANYTHING OTHER THAN VISTA on this machine! No more hp for me, ever and I am studying Linux even now.
Next time I check to see what os's a machine will support FIRST!
Once burnt, twice shy.
