gateway 450sx4 heatsink/fan: how to get at it?

Hi,
am new to this forum. please excuse inexperience.
my Gateway 450sx4 overheats but still works. I want to keep it that way. It has been suggested I check the heatsink/fan, perhaps replace or reseat same. How do I safely get at this component? (I've never tried disassembly on a laptop before.)
Any help is appreciated.

hi chuckm,

how are you with a screwdriver? to disassemble most often you just need a screwdriver. also you may need the service guide for your model to use as a guide. try here: http://www.eserviceinfo.com/download.php?fileid=10005

on the other hand if you think you are not up for it, bring it to a repair shop instead.
