Non start up + Beeps
i have a hp pavilion dv6000, ive had it, virtually without fault, since september 07 however, earlier today, it froze/ started going slow so i tried to turn it off. it froze on the windows screen saying 'saving your settings...' for about 15 mins so i turned it off via power.
when i tried to start it up again it beeps dash dot dot [2 second long drawn out beep followed by two 1 second evenly spaced beeps] it seems like the hard drive/fans are responding but nothing is showing on screen, i can also still adjust the volume but i dont hear any windows start up sounds or anything, so i dont think the screen is just not displaying. been doing the same for about 8 attemped start ups with battery, without, tried moving it out of its cavity and such like. any ideas please anyone? thank you x Last edited by Antneedshelp!; 04-28-2008 at 04:42 PM. |

Re: Non start up + Beeps
hi,
have you tried it with an external monitor? by the way, i searched for beep codes 1-long and 2-short beeps and most point to a bad video card. if you do not get anything on the external monitor, it could be one of the suspects. reseat your RAM modules too. if you have a working spare RAM, use it at the moment. here's a good documentation on troubleshooting such problems: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...ctID=c00372143

Re: Non start up + Beeps
With laptops video errors can be caused by either video card or RAM since most laptops use integrated graphics with shared video memory. Try re-seating the RAM like mentioned, if that doesn't work your laptop is still under warranty (hopefully) so that is still an option.
On some laptops you can clear the CMOS by holding down the power button when the laptop is off for 5 - 10 seconds.
