Troubles with my lenovo again

Have troubles with my DVD player. Everything started running slow, like a stretched video tape. Tried endless new drivers (which you kind people on here helped me with) none of them seemed to help at all.
I do confess, previous to coming on here, I did alter some settings, that I knew nothing about.
Any how, I tried just now to upload photos from my SD card and my Lenovo laptop won't recognise my card is even in.
It says "No device detected"
Do you think this could have anything to do with my DVD player not working properly and is it possible to fix, do you think?

Can anyone help as I need to upload photos tonight.

Help!!!

My System

Re: Troubles with my lenovo again

are you able to connect any other device to the laptop? like USB or anything?

also, if you think its the DVD player causing it, usually they are only held in by one screw on the bottom of the laptop, sometimes they are marked. you could try to take the dvd player out and restart the PC and see what happens.

Re: Troubles with my lenovo again

you are using Vista?

i noticed that you have another 'open' thread with a Lenovo 3000 C200 having problems with the DVD drive. there was no update from you if you got that fixed or if the drivers worked or not. is this problem still related to that one?

if the drivers do not work, consider replacing your DVD drive. i am guessing but it looks like that it is about to go. if you can swap it with another DVD drive, so much the better so you can test your drive on another similar laptop. another way is to update the firmware of the DVD drive.

removal instructions can be d/loaded here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-66339

the same thing for the SD drive. try using a USB connected card reader. if it is recognized there may be you just need to push in the SD card a little more further until it stops or clicks.

if all these still fail to make it work, best if you can bring it to a repair shop for further troubleshooting and isolation. they also have the tools to use that would really help in pinning down the problem.

Yes TriggerFinger, that's right, I was going off on holiday and just got back. Hence trying to upload photos. Was trying to send them to family in the USA.
The things you suggested about my driver didn't help I'm afraid.
I keep thinking though, that a setting has been knocked off or something. I really don't think anything has burned out.
This lenovo may find itself without a home soon. Oh, I'm XP by the way.

Re: Troubles with my lenovo again

Hi mrswebber,

in the other thread, it started with the DVD drive could not be accessed. i believe that was solved. then it was followed by the audio problem when using the DVD. and i replied to that by saying to install the audio drivers but they did not work. so i assume that you still have that "volume is very scratchy, alomst as though it is a tape running slow. Also, when the puter starts up, The Windows little jingle sounds very scratchy too." (if i may quote your post in the other thread). looking at it now, it all points to a dying DVD drive. if you have a friend with a similar laptop, it is best if you can try swapping DVD drives just to test it and confirm if it is indeed the hardware and not the drivers or the settings that you may have altered.

as to what dai advised here's the d/load link for the card reader driver: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-66355

Re: Troubles with my lenovo again

Thank you! My camera is uploading my pictures via the USB port. Thank goodness. Although, I don't know where that leaves my SD card reader.

Still think I've faffed about with setting I shouldn't have. Sadly, my "System Restore" has never worked since buying the puter, I think thay may have helped.

I'm beginning to realise you could be right.
This machine is just over a year old and really has hardly been used. The DVD player I mean.
Thanks ever so much for your help TriggerFinger.
Don't know anyone else that was stupid enough to buy a "Lenovo" I'm afraid. Also, I stay out in the sticks and the only shop local, charges £55 = $110 just to look at it, so, right now, getting it fixed is out of the question for me. I've had it to this shop three times since I got it. Two more visits and I could have had a new decent one.

Re: Troubles with my lenovo again

It could well be the operator that's stoooopid and not the lappy I'm sorry, I don't have a clue about what I'm trying to do to fix it. Triggerfinger showed me how to replace all the drives and I did it, but it didn't help. Maybe it is on the way out right enough.

Okay, no joy with this either I'm afraid.

I was wondering if there was a way I could take my puter back to factory settings? Challenge is, I can't run a disc, but I didn't get one with the lappy anyway.
Was wondering if I could get a restore dowload for Lenovo somewhere.
Anyone know?
