I just bought a new HP laptop. It has a built-in SD reader. Every time I put in an SD card, the drive can be found. But when I try to open the drive, OS always says that the SD card is not formatted. I follow that and format the card. But some error messages about I/O errors are shown, and formatting cannot be finished.
I have installed the lastest driver version 2.0.0.6 from HP official site. The problem remains. I also tried the old version, still the same problem. I am sure the problem is not cards. I have 3 cards, all of them have the same problem as above. When I try them on USB card reader, everything is OK. All of them work in my digital camera, too. Two cards are 128MB from Panasonic, and one is 256MB from Lexar. So the problem should not be because of the size. Could any1 provide some information about this error? I use windows XP. Many Thanks.

Re: problems with HP nx6330 notebook SD reader
hi,
is this laptop still under warranty? if so you can return it to HP and claim warranty. as you described it looks like a failure on reader itself.

Re: problems with HP nx6330 notebook SD reader
before you format the SD cards, check on their Properties first in My Computer. Take note/write down their File System (FAT or FAT32).
in formatting, set the file system to what its original file system was (see your note) and then do a Quick Format.

Re: problems with HP nx6330 notebook SD reader
In the property, the format is detected to be RAW. The size is 0.
Also, the name of the card is recognized as "SD1 device", but on the USB reader, the card has its own name. I tried Lexar Image Rescue today. It could process 66%, and no images were recovered. (I took a few photos before plugining the card). It stopped there for more than 2 hours, and then no more reaction. I had to reboot the computer. Last edited by rocksoccer; 04-19-2008 at 07:01 PM. |

Re: problems with HP nx6330 notebook SD reader
i believe you have tried formatting them using your USB card reader. and i think it is safe to say they formatted without any errors. with that, i suggest formatting them again in your USB card reader using Quick Format (FAT or FAT32). from there, use them or format them (yes, again) in your built in card reader using Quick Format (FAT/FAT32).
if the same occurs, i believe your built in reader may be defective and may need repair or replacement. driver wise, i am almost certain they would using the same as that of a USB connected reader... so since there is no problem with the USB reader, i believe the drivers are not in question. i suggest you also take this to a local repair shop for a second opinion. shops most often have the right tools and equipment to diagnose such issues.
