dell 700m no longer charging
Hello,
I have a Dell inspiron 700m laptop. It worked fine up until about a week ago. I had been charging it like normal, only the charger was stretched a distance and was putting some downward tension on the DC Jack where the charger connects to the laptop (mistake, i know). It was during this time that the laptop stopped charging (battery charging light on laptop exterior was not on and system tray indicator showed that battery as not charging as well). I wiggled the connection and started working again for a few days as long as there was upward force on the connection. However, it does not charge at all now. The laptop and battery are about 3 years old. So, I am guessing I have something wrong with the DC jack connection. Does this sound right? They have new ones available on ebay and states that it comes with instructions. http://cgi.ebay.com/DC-Jack-for-Dell...QQcmdZViewItem Do you think this will fix my problem? I am thinking that would remove motherboard, heat up the solder points and remove the old DC jack, then solder the new jack in. Is this correct? THANK YOU :) edit: i have tried 2 different ac chargers with the same results i don't see any bent or corroded pins on battery or laptop Last edited by fun4stuff; 04-17-2008 at 11:29 AM. |

Re: dell 700m no longer charging
hi fun4stuff,
Welcome to TSF! you may have nailed it down already. i cannot say if it is indeed the DC jack but is the number one on my list as per your description. just post back whatever the result... btw, get hold of the service guide for your model just in case. they come in handy.
