Dell Lat D630

Hey all,

Just got a new Laptop from work. I work 1st level tech support and the 2nd level desktop guys setup the laptops.

I can't get in touch with them till next week so I am trying to solve this problem on my own....

The laptop has an internal wireless card(complete with on/off switch on the side), but it has been disabled.

I have admin rights on the machine but I cannot get the card re-enabled...

Any ideas?

I do not have the Wireless Network Connections under the Network Connections in Control panel.

If I look in device management the wireless card does not show up.(just the LAN and 1394 card.

I jumped into the registry and the folder under local machine/system/currentcontrolset/services/control/network - shows the same, LAN and 1394....

everything is enabled corrrectly in the BIOS, but under device info it shows "none" for the wi-fi device.....

I am very confused....

Anyone ever hear of a laptop having a switch but no wifi card???

Re: Dell Lat D630

Are you sure they did not take the card out? Open the latch on the bottom and see if it is there.

Re: Dell Lat D630

it is possible. It is a .gov contract with Dell, I wonder if Dell makes them then pulls the cards if the customer doesn't want them(Which has to be very rare these days...)

I will have to wait till I can get in touch with the Desktop support guy...

Thanks for the quick responses!
