direct3d components not found?

i just bought a k series vaio and i installed all my games. (3D games) andwhen i tried to play the game i receiveed an error message saying "compatable direct3d components not found."
i went into settings and made sure direct3d was enabled but i still get the same message. direct x10 is installed. i am using xp. if you know of a cure or explaination i would appreciate it.

You note your OS as XP but XP does not support dx10. You will have to upgrade to Vista to get dx10 support.

ah. that makes since. so direcx9 should solve that error as long as the game doesnt require dx10? if it does require it is there any way arround upgrading to vista?

Sorry. If a game requires dx10 you got'a have Vista.
