Stuck Acer Aspire

I have an Acer Aspire 3680 and today while listening to music on it I put in a CD ROM. Before I had the chance to shut the music off, my screen goes black, showing nothing but my mouse arrow. I pressed Ctrl Atl Del which lead me to the start up page, but after many efforts the computer will not shut down, restart, or show me the task manager. I have tried logging out and back in, something it will allow me to do but this only returns me to the black screen. I have also tried allowing my battery to run out and starting it back up again, but this also returns me to the black screen. I've removed the CD ROM and tried all of these things, but it always results the same way.
I have worked with the CD ROM before, both on other computers and this one, so I know it is not a virus problem related to that.

Re: Stuck Acer Aspire

hi green_rain99,

so you were able to force it to power OFF but each time you power ON, all you get is a black screen (no screen, not even a blinking cursor)? if so, hook it up to an external monitor and see if you get something on the screen.

Re: Stuck Acer Aspire

On occasion I get a cursor or sometimes even the taskbar, but I cannot click anything. Most often I will see the taskbar and then it will go away again leaving me with just the black screen and cursor.

Re: Stuck Acer Aspire

run diags on your RAM. d/load Memtest86+ (link on my sig) and burn the image into CD. you have to boot from the CD in your CD drive to start the diagnostics.

also try to repair your windows. if you are using XP, instructions can be found here:
