ACER AS7004 dvd drive ??!?!?!?

I have an Acer AS7004 since Oct 07, and after encounetring a few problems with it the dvd/cd drive has stopped working, it will accept a disc but won't read it or play it at all, this goes for all discs that i use !
When i look at the properties for the drive , it states thats its working properly but its clearly not.
My enquiry is regarding purchasing an optical drive so that i can finally use the damn thing, does anybody have any suggestions so that i dont waste more money purchasing something which wont work with the laptop i have, i could always sned it back to Plymouth to get fixed, but i'm unsure how long this will take, and it will be the 2nd time i've sent it back to them ?

Anybody encountered problems like this before and have any suggestions to help me please ?

Re: ACER AS7004 dvd drive ??!?!?!?

I know sending a p/c back to wherever to get it worked on can be a hassle. But in order to avoid breaking up your warranty you may have to do just that.

As far as replacing your dvd/cd drive some notebooks have them as modular where they can be easily removed & , for instance , an extra battery can be added in its place. Again that depends on your notebook setup.

If your dvd/cd can be removed try doing that and then reinstalling it to make sure it's seated properly & try it again. If it is modular & keeps acting up you can purchase another that will take its place & probably be ok re your warranty.

But you really should send it back to be repaired.
