Dell inspiron 600m D: Drive problems

When I put a dvd in to the drive it very rarely works. It usually just makes a bunch of noises, which sound like the eye in there jerking back and forth and having a seizure. Sometimes when I put a disk in it will make the noises for about 10 or 20 seconds then just stop and act like there is no disk in there. If I eject the disk and put it back in 5 to 10 times it will eventually work Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Dell inspiron 600m D: Drive problems

First do you have any warranty on this laptop at all? To me the problem seems like a bad optical drive and it needs to be replace asap. If your computer is out of warranty then buying the part from dell will be pricey. I recommend buying the part from www.impactcomputers.com

hi jefro_w,

looks like the drive is dying on you. but before jumping into any conclusions, give it a good cleaning first. and yes, including the lens.

check this site on how to maintain your optical drive...
