Dell tweak help
I got a prob with dell, Lately its b een going real slow, I just brought it.
Dell Inspiron 1420. Ive done over 5 virus scanners and they scaned nothing, Except avast at the end only scaned a trojan virus, i got rid of it. I got Search and destroy done that, i got registry watchers. and yeah, i DID uninstall the old virus scanners :) I allso got ad-aware but what annoys me is, I play a simple hardly tight graphics game, Wolfteam. It use to take roughly 1 - 5 seconds but now its about 1 minute + to load a game, sometimes its so long the game will lose becuase no user loged into it on a 1 on 1. And ingame its really bad. I opened a program and what it seems is when i opened it it said i do not meet the req it said i only have 500 - 700 MHZ something around there. For help, These are my specs. Dell inspiron 1420 2gb of ram (DDR3) Nvidia geforce 8400 GS 128MB (DDR3 RAM) Vista Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz 2.00Ghz My ratings for my computer in aero went down 0.3 >.> it was 3.7 now its 3.4! everything else stayed the same processor: 4.9 Memory (RAM): 4.8 GRAPHICS: 3.4 Gaming Graphics: 4.5 Primary hard disk: 4.7 What ive done to solve this but has failed: Ive fully defraged, Vius scaned using 5 diffrent virus scanners( even mcaffe which is failez) Ive used spy bot and destroy, Registry watchers, And ive done registry defrags, Registry cleaners, I did taht thing that tok like 3 hours and it did it on bootup and had to reboot for it, Fully updated computer card ect via dell site. This is some things that ive done, Atm my protecting is: Avast ( doesnt show up in bottom right :( i duno if thats a problem or not) And spybot search and destroy my registry cleaner i avoid having open due to it asking for every darn registry lol. Lastly my hijack: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 1:28:08 PM, on 11/04/2008 Platform: Windows Vista (WinNT 6.00.1904) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16643) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exe C:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exe C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avgnt.exe C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe C:\Program Files\DellTPad\Apoint.exe C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe C:\Windows\ehome\ehtray.exe C:\Windows\ehome\ehmsas.exe C:\Windows\System32\mobsync.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe C:\Program Files\DellTPad\ApMsgFwd.exe C:\Program Files\DellTPad\Apntex.exe C:\Program Files\DellTPad\HidFind.exe C:\Users\Danny\Program Files\DNA\btdna.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Ink\InputPersonalization.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avcenter.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ieuser.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEInstal.exe C:\Windows\explorer.exe C:\Users\Danny\Desktop\HiJackThis.exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://%20m,li/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Dabbys explorer R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = O1 - Hosts: ::1 localhost O2 - BHO: flashget urlcatch - {2F364306-AA45-47B5-9F9D-39A8B94E7EF7} - C:\Program Files\FlashGet\jccatch.dll O2 - BHO: BitComet ClickCapture - {39F7E362-828A-4B5A-BCAF-5B79BFDFEA60} - C:\Program Files\BitComet\tools\BitCometBHO_1.1.9.24.dll O2 - BHO: Spybot-S&D IE Protection - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\ssv.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) O2 - BHO: Windows Live Sign-in Helper - {9030D464-4C02-4ABF-8ECC-5164760863C6} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WindowsLiveLogin.dll O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Helper - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar1.dll O2 - BHO: Browser Address Error Redirector - {CA6319C0-31B7-401E-A518-A07C3DB8F777} - C:\Program Files\Dell\BAE\BAE.dll O2 - BHO: FlashGet GetFlash Class - {F156768E-81EF-470C-9057-481BA8380DBA} - C:\Program Files\FlashGet\getflash.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar1.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] "C:\Windows\system32\msconfig.exe" /auto O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Defender] %ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe -hide O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [avgnt] "C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avgnt.exe" /min O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvSvc] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\system32\nvsvc.dll,nvsvcStart O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NVHotkey] rundll32.exe C:\Windows\system32\nvHotkey.dll,Start O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Apoint] C:\Program Files\DellTPad\Apoint.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ehTray.exe] C:\Windows\ehome\ehTray.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TRACTION In-Game Radio Player] C:\Program Files\TRACTION In-Game Radio Player\TRACTION In-Game Radio Player.lnk O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpybotSD TeaTimer] C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Speech Recognition] "C:\Windows\Speech\Common\sapisvr.exe" -SpeechUX -Startup O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BitTorrent DNA] "C:\Users\Danny\Program Files\DNA\btdna.exe" O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [Sidebar] %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\Sidebar.exe /detectMem (User 'LOCAL SERVICE') O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [WindowsWelcomeCenter] rundll32.exe oobefldr.dll,ShowWelcomeCenter (User 'LOCAL SERVICE') O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\Run: [Sidebar] %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\Sidebar.exe /detectMem (User 'NETWORK SERVICE') O4 - Global Startup: VersionTrackerPro.lnk = ? Re: Dell tweak help
You have alot of stuff running. Why do you have both IE & Firefox running at the same time ? Also I see you have some torrent stuff. And some things I've no idea what but I'm not big on Dell so some of the stuff may be close to normal for it.
But first of all you note it ran fine for a'while. Did it start running slow say after a boot up or was it slow in coming ? Did you install something & notice it started to act up ? Make sure you have your latest video driver installed. What's your memory usage via Task Manager after a boot up but before you start running apps ? If you know what "msconfig" does you may want to take a look at it & do a what's-needed-to-run-Windows & see if that helps. Also have you tried running via "safe mode" to see if that has any affect ? Fwiw...those "registry cleaners" can do more harm than good. Last edited by al616; 04-14-2008 at 06:30 PM. Reason: Addendum |

Re: Dell tweak help
oh...they can?
I allready used them. I take everything down when i play games, except my basic security:P I have eveyrthing updated, i just rebooted my com and im about to check becuase i did something i forgot what and im hoping its gonna help. I've got everything updated, as i noted. I allso did clean my start-up menu, so thats ok. It just started slow then bam it was all together slow. I noticed some long wait-times with my games when they loaded, then it started geting jittery and jitteryer and longer and then all of a sudden it was unbearable. I've done safe mode, but it doesnt do much like my virus scanner doens seem to open in it and alot of the stuff dont work well, and it doesnt help to much ;{ about to go see if what i did helped. |

Re: Dell tweak help
Yes they can. There are some excellent write ups at this site that talks about that & other myths. If you get a chance have a look at them.
I hope your remembered fix turns out to help. I remember my browser (firefox) started to really slow down & I couldn't figure out why. It turned out to be one of the add-ons I installed. You just never can tell. |

Re: Dell tweak help
As far as the Firefox add on that was slowing me down...it was months ago & i can't remember which one it was. However it made me realize that what I thought I was doing to protect or make web browsing more secure actually had some not so good side effect(s).
In your case I think it's pretty obvious one or more of your installed programs is causing your over all general slow down. The question is which one(s). The only thing you can do is try uninstalling them one at a time or doing a back up & a restore. You can also try doing a system restore via the Windows utility to a point just before you started slowing down. But since your notebook is new you really need to find out if your slow down is just software related or something hardware related that may require warranty work. |

Re: Dell tweak help
Well, The thing is.
I Tryed a system restore, it keept erroring at the end of it, Which leads me to believe a virus. I recently had someone from dell come repair my laptop becuase i spilt regenerade on the keyboard and it caused malfunctions in it, the guy came and repaired it. |
