Dell Inspiron 1720 Vs Hp 6700 Business Edition

Hi! This is Apoorva from India, Mumbai.

Now, I am planning to buy a laptop which has an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor with a Windows Vista Business Edition.

I will be using this Laptop for my home use to check emails, doing small graphics editing work using Adobe Photoshop CS, surfing websites, etc...

My father on the other end will use this Laptop for his business purpose and as his profession requires travelling within as well as outside the country, the laptop will also be carried along with him.

So in short, this laptop will be used at home by me for personal use as well as will be taken within / outside of India for business purpose by my Dad.

For DELL Laptop (US):
Now, I have configured a laptop online on DELL US website which my cousin staying in US will pay for and will bring along when he comes to India in this year itself.

HP Laptop 6700 Series India
On the other end, I have also obtained a quotation for HP 6700 Series Business Edition Laptop from my local technician over here.

Now, here’s my customized version of DELL Inspiron 1720 Laptop:

And for HP 6700 Series Business Edition which I am planning to buy from India, kindly check the attached file: “HP 6700 Business Edition India” for the configuration details.

I have taken “3Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor, 24x7 Phone Support” for DELL Laptop which is called as an International warranty in order for me to get support for my Laptop in India.

Since we all are aware that DELL is based in US and does not have its own Technical Service Center in India, so they operate through 3rd Party for any kind of technical support to a customer in India.

Therefore, I am quiet worried about the service option if I buy this Laptop from the US b’coz there could me a service limitation internationally as compared to services offered to customers in US for this Laptop.

I also sent an email in this regards to DELL India, Bangalore and they say that Technical / Repairs service will be provided for this DELL Laptop bought from US but COMPLETE REPLACEMENT is only limited to the country where the laptop is manufactured and sold and therefore would not be provided in India.

On the other hand, as the H.P. Laptop will be purchased from India, my HP Laptop will be eligible for a “Complete Replacement” as well.

So, here are my questions:

Q1. After going through the configuration information for both the laptops, one can easily notice that DELL has 256MB Graphics Card (Dedicated) where as HP 6700 Series has onboard graphics card up to 384MB shared. So anytime, as per the configuration, DELL is better than HP Laptop but my technician has to say that this HP Laptop is a business edition series which altogether is different and in no way can be compared with the DELL laptop which I have customized and has a higher configuration.

Q2. Should I first look towards the configuration or towards complete service?

Q3. Is the DELL Inspiron 1720 Laptop or H.P. 6700 "Business Series" better?

But considering the service offered, I feel HP will be much safer than DELL.

Therefore, I am confused if I should go for DELL or HP after going through my experience mentioned above.

So, if anyone on this forum can help me in taking a right decision on this, it would be greatly appreciated.
