Keyboard malfunction after liquid spill
Hello!
Last night I spilled my drink (coke + vodka) over my Toshiba laptop. I switched it off immediately, dried with tissues then detached the keyboard and dried inside too. Then I left it open for several hours and reassembled it. Windows boots normally and everything appears to be OK except for the input devices - both the keyboard and the mouse are malfunctioning. The keys dont produce the expected output but rather random sequences of symbols: pressing one letter sometimes results in 4 or more symbols and even a newline. The mouse is somewhat better - clicking on a single icon however causes the selection of several, as if there is a shift or ctrl key pressed. So my questions are: 1.Do you think this is due to remaining liquid and will go away? 2.If itīs a permanent problem, is an outer keyboard likely to function properly? 3.What settings are causing the weird mouse behaviour? How do I undo them if I get the keyboard to work? Please respond! Thank you! N. |

Re: Keyboard malfunction after liquid spill
if you consider you can use coke to clean battery posts/connectors in your car, you can assume it will do some damage to your laptop. Coke leaves a sticky film so if all you did was use tissue, then you may not have cleaned it enough.
then there is aways a chance by taking apart the keyboard you damaged something.

Re: Keyboard malfunction after liquid spill
First thank you for the response!
I am far from the idea that I cleaned anything, I only tried to dry. I think I used some water though. When I detach the keyboard the most of the space under it is occupied by a plain panel and the electronics and the fan are under it, therefore hard to reach. How am I supposed to reach them and what cleaning stuff should I use? |

Re: Keyboard malfunction after liquid spill
You may need to take the laptop apart to make sure you get it all. Alcohol is the best not the regular 70 percent rubbing alohol, try to get the 90 percent or above.
