LCD DISPLAY PROBLEM with compaq laptop

My compaq evo n1020v 2.4ghz P4 15" display is only displaying about a third of the screen. So I hooked an external monitor to the laptop and everything works great except for the built in screen. Do I have a bad inverter board or lcd screen? please let me know if you had this same problem and how you fixed it.

hi VHAMMER,

hmmm you may be looking at a defective LCD. AFAIK inverter boards provide power for backlight. but if your screen is OK in terms of brightness and the problem is only a part of the whole LCD works.. then it could mean a malfunctioning LCD.

if you want to, you can start with replacing the inverter if you can find another laptop to swap the inverter with.
