Ok, I am helping a friend of a friend trying to fix their laptop a dell inspirion 6000 running XP home. Regular start up yields a Blue screen of death, any other start up (safe mode, safe w/ networking etc.) and the system hangs up at mup.sys, and finally when i try to use the XP cd and recovery console the friend says they know of no password, so I cannot recover the computer. Any help is greatly appreciated, and if any more info is needed ill be here.

Re: Need help BSOD, hung at mup.sys, and lost admin password
Hi txag and welcome to TSF
![]() On password help, it is a strict policy of this forum not to help in that area, realizing that almost all requests are from valid users, we have no way to verify that. I will help you as much as I can. First, did you try logging on as the admistrator and just using the enter key? If no password was ever entered for administrator, that should work. You could download BartPe and make a boot to CD disk which has several repair tools on it. It will boot XP from the CD and let you do repair work on your drive C: or other as required. I have a copy and looked at it, but haven't used it. I recall it had the ability to do the repairs that you would normally do in Recovery Console. I didn't save the link for it, but it is free and easy to find on the internet. Hope this helps. ![]() Mack1

Re: Need help BSOD, hung at mup.sys, and lost admin password
we cannot help with the password under the rules of the forum
when it hangs there from memory it is the following entry that is the problem http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;324764

Re: Need help BSOD, hung at mup.sys, and lost admin password
Appreciate the help, I actually had just downloaded Bartpe, but have not been able to make the Boot CD. From what you told me it looks that that is my best option, since it may have some of the recovery tools my XP cd has. Oh and sorry to post about the password, i totally understand.
