aftermarket batteries for Sony SZ
About 6 months ago I picked up a nice little Sony SZ series notebook for travel purposes. It's been a good machine. But the standard battery wasn't big enough to get through a couple of flights plus a layover so I went looking to get a large capacity one.
Of couse Sony batteries are outrageously expensive so I found one made by Accessory Power that cost about 1/3 the real Sony. I got the battery and it worked great... for about a month. I hadn't travelled for a month or so and when I went to run the Sony it wouldn't start on the battery. Figuring it just needed to be charged I plugged it in. The indicator shows it is chargng and at 40% capacity but if I pull the plug it shuts down immediately. The computer will not operate off the battery. I then install the original small capacity battery that I haven't used or charged for 4 months and it works fine. Here's the kicker. I sent the Accessory Power back for a replacement which they sent me. And the second one did THE EXACT SAME THING, i.e., it worked for a month or 2 then all of a sudden will not run the computer. Anyone have an idea what's going on? Just defective LiIon control circuits in the batteries?? Anyone know of a reliable aftermarket brand? |
