HP zv6000 overheating ???

My HP zv6000 will run for about 20-30 mins. Then the fan starts to rev up and down as if it is overheating. It will then shutdown. The air from the vent feels cool. I have tried a Bios upgrade but, this did not help.
I'm running Windows XP Pro with an AMD processor. Any ideas??

Re: HP zv6000 overheating ???

hi maco1958,

correct me if my understanding is wrong... 20 to 30 mins. that means you are already booted up and already in XP, probably browsing the internet, is this correct? do you see any error on the screen (i.e BSOD) before it shuts OFF?

it could be overheating but it could be something else too. assuming it is overheating; are you using a cooling pad? i suggest you use one. also get a can of compressed air and give a shots thru the vents and heatsink... see if it improves anything. if it does not help, consider opening the laptop up so you can give it a good clean. so at this point, i advise you to download the service manual for your laptop as it will become handy when you open your computer up.

i guess that's it for now... do post back whatever the result.

Re: HP zv6000 overheating ???

I actually have a very similar problem which remains unsolved. I know it overheats because i have Speedfan monitoring the temperature for me. As soon as it hits 80c it freezes and i have to wait a while before i can fire it up again. I notice it gets hotter when i'm doing things either graphic intense or heavy CPU utilization. Basically i can't watch youTube videos or install anything without hitting 80c.

As a temporary solution, try putting your power management settings on "Max Battery". This will make you CPU run at a lower clock, thus keeping it cooler for a longer period of time.

I am also running XP pro and an AMD processor.
