Looking for a new laptop

Hi All,

I'm looking for a new laptop to work with because i need to travel a lot. Maybe someone can advise me on which one to buy.

Below are the questions filled in:

Budget: How much money are you willing to spend on the laptop? 1000-1500 € (but i might be a bit flexible in this)

Screen: What size screen do you want, and do you need widescreen? I guess 15.1" would be ok, no need for a 17", lower weight = easier to travel with

Brands: Are there any brands you want or don't want to buy? Practically everything is available, maybe some preferences for SONY VAIO or ACER, but other suggestions are very welcome

Mobility: How much will you need and how long does the battery need to last? Usage between 5-7 hours a day, most of the time with power supply available so battery isnt that important, should last for a while though ;)

Durability: Does this laptop need to be sturdy or durable/semi-durable?
No preference

Multitasking: Will you be multitasking with this laptop and if so, how much?
Normal office activities combined with internet and maybe some music and graphical programs like autocad

Gaming: Will you be gaming and if so, how much and how new are the games?
Not really critical, the better the graphical card, the better the drawing applications might run, so it can be a critical factor to decide which one to buy

Calculations: Will you be doing any intense calculations or multimedia encoding?
As mentioned before, a lot of drawing on laptop with autoCAD or comparable programs

Storage: How much storage will you need and what will you be storing?
Anything between 200-500 Gb will do fine, 200 is a minimum though

Optical Media: Will you need to burn any optical media like CDs or DVDs?
DVD-burner is a pluspoint to have

Operating System: Do you want Windows XP or Vista, or Linux compatibility? Vista

Location: What country do you live in? Belgium

Many thanks in advance!!!

Greetings,

Thobeman

Wink Re: Looking for a new laptop

My preference is of course to the toshiba line of laptops they can be a bit pricey but overall they are usually robust and can be fixed usually fairly easily, my next pick would be an acer I have owned several of these laptops as well and found them to be quite good performace wise I would also suggest using an AMD processor as these chips have a proven track record in hi heat situations (less likely to overheat with prolonged use) anyhow there are several models to choose from simply look at processing power a good dual core will be very desirable and make sure it has LOTS OF RAM!! as this is what will allow the system to work quicker. Also make sure the graphics card has dedicated video ram as to not take away from the systems ram
so I hope this helps
