cardbuss usb/firewire

I have been given a Compaq Armarda E500.

It works fine for my purposes but has only 1 usb port and 1.1 at that. I have bought a hub and that allows internet and a stick etc but my audio interface just will not have the port. OK straight in.

I don't mind springing for a cardbus usb unit but wonder if the laptop is going to "drive" usb 2.0 this way and will my AI be happy! I ask because I put a usb 2.0 pci card in an old pc and it was never really right with it.

I can also get a good deal if I buy a FW and usb unit at the same time (2 separate devices). Same(ish) question, will it run FW?

Dave.

Re: cardbuss usb/firewire

Hi ecc83,

i had the same problem before and decided to get USB on PCMCIA, only to realize that my laptop does not give out enough power to the PCMCIA card. when i put two or more devices at the same time, one of them just does not perform well. but that was a thinkpad... so i have no idea if it has the same effect on yours.

Re: cardbuss usb/firewire

Thanks Shan,

Someone unexpectedly paid me back a tenner and I found Maplin do the biz for £25 for a 2port job(they only have the 4port at 30, crafty buggers!).

This has slotted in fine and and IS usb 2.0. My Behringer BCA2000 AI is telling me so. The Berry won't play back tho! I am just about to try ASIO4All drivers.

The Maps' unit has a socket on't front for 5V in if needed, being a 'tronics techcy I can always rustle up some DC if I need it!

Cheers,
Dave
