[SOLVED] hp pavilion 6130--WLAN on--ghosted

I have an HP Pavilion zv6130 that I have had repeated problems with. I have reformatted and reloaded WinXP home 4 times now in the last 2 weeks. I keep getting unrecoverable problems. Is there a problem that can exist in the laptop itself that isn't controlled by the Hard Drive.

My latest problem now is that I can't get Wireless Access to work. The Wireless tower symbol on the Start menu has a place to double click to turn it on, however that function is ghosted and I can't find where to enable it. I checked BIOS and my wireless is enabled there.

Could this be a hardware problem instead of a software problem?

Where is my Wireless device located if I want to unplug it and see if it has a loose connection?

Ideas??

Hi,

i suggest you download all the needed drivers from HP website. Include the MiniPCI/WiFi driver. that would narrow down the list of possible errors. also update your operating system (get the latest XP updates). if you still get a lot of errors, consider a fresh install of Windows.

best source for device locations in your laptop is the service manual. you can also get that from HP website.

Re: hp pavilion 6130--WLAN on--ghosted

This morning I found one of the four buttons above my keyboard with the wireless tower symbol. It wasn't on like the other 3--so I clicked it on and my WLAN turned on and started working.

So thanks for your advice. Problem solved.
