Laptop memory upgrade
The laptop in question is a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo D7850. According to Crucial's RAM selector and Kingston's RAM selector, it can take up to 2 X 512MB PC2700 memory chips. The one staring back at me had one (512MB PC2700, that is). Next to it, happened to reside 2 X 512MB PC3200 memory chips I had in surplus.
![]() So, here goes: I install both 512MB PC3200 chips, and Memtest86+ gives >300 errors in the 500-510MB area. I run Memtest86+ with only one PC3200 chip at a time, and I get no errors at all, with either of the RAM chips. I run Memtest86+ with one PC3200 and one PC2700 chip, and I get no errors (but the test takes much longer to conclude). What do you suggest me to do? Is it OK if I leave it with the mixed configuration that passes Memtest? |

Re: Laptop memory upgrade
Zazula,
i tried this before and it worked just fine in my case (although i have read somewhere that it should not be mixed). but since i have no choice that time, i just did what i had to do. in your case it is quite strange because of the errors. i just do not know why you get them in Memtest86+. may be it has something to do with the limitation of the motherboard as it only supports PC2100 or PC2700. by the way, the downside of that was my higher speed RAM ran only as fast as the lower speed RAM.
