Boot Up Problem With HP NX9600

I have a problem with my NX9600. When powered on, it makes it to the HP INVENT screen and then abruptly shuts off. I have tried re-seating the hard drive, the memory, tried booting up with one stick, 2 sticks, no sticks, tried different hard drives, tried booting from an XP disc to no avail. The unit was bought in an auction untested and had no power supply, so I bought a power supply and it appears that the battery is charged, but have no idea what pins to actually put probes on with meter to find out and whether that even matters. I would think that it would work with power plugged in and it always shuts off at the exact same point. Short of taking it in to an HP center, I was hoping that someone might see this and know exactly what the problem is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Boot Up Problem With HP NX9600

Hi,
Can you at least boot to BIOS? If going into BIOS settings still shuts if off, try removing the battery (run on AC alone) and try it again. If it still fails, try booting on battery if you have charge but remove AC jack from laptop.

You can also try to use another RAM stick or test your existing RAM sticks in another laptop that accepts similar RAM sticks.

If you cannot boot properly (even just to enter BIOS), you may want to open it up and see if there is something inside that shuts your unit down (i.e. foreign objects that shorts the components - remove as needed). If you are not comfortable in opening the laptop up, have a repair shop check it for you.

Please do post back what you find.
