Acer 5520-5716
I ran the Acer eReovery program (Alt+F10 during boot). Now, when I load windows, I get a blank screen with a blinking cursor. If I press Alt+F10 during POST it takes me to the Windows loading screen, and then displays the following error message:
The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation. Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: Acer 5520-5716
Hi,
Is the recovery program the one in a separate partition of your hard drive? I have not tried using the recovery program but if this happened to me i will try to use CD to reinstall. I say this because i personally do not trust the reliability of the hard drives. Anything on them can be corrupted by something somehow. Error in your post more likely point to a corrupted file in the recovery program.

Re: Acer 5520-5716
i dont know with Acer but HP/Compaq recovery disks can be bought from their site for around $20.
i bought mine from there just to be sure and safe. why not try an XP installer instead. make sure you just format the partition where you will load the operating system (and not where the recovery files are).

Re: Acer 5520-5716
I got Acer tech support on the phone. The man that I talked to said he would ship me the recovery discs via FedEx since I'm in warranty. However, I've since got XP Pro installed via MSDNAA at my university with all appropriate drivers, except sound. If I can't get that fixed, I might be posting a new thread :P
