DBAN and OS installation both failed
I tried to wipe my hard drive clean using DBAN, but the process failed at 68% and said it was most likely to be caused by a bad sector. I then tried to boot from os disc, error msg kept popping up, stating various system files cannot be copied. Is this caused by the hard drive? If so, will i be able to install windows after replacing it? Also, will any notebook hd be okay or do i have to buy OEM hd? I have a HP zv5330us.

Re: DBAN and OS installation both failed
is the os cd for that specific system? If you know the harddrives manufacturer, you can download a harddrive diagnostic software to check your drive. Most notebook drives will work. Not sure of the type in your system but I do not think its sata.

Re: DBAN and OS installation both failed
hello ,
youy could try this wiper (killdisk ) it works the same as (dban) link http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm now it all depends on the harddrive when you replace it for you can get faster ones !! follow this link so you can compare harddrives http://www.tigerdirect.com/ but i would try the killdisk first also you can get this http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ it has some very great tools on this to wich you can test your harddrive / wipe the harddrive /& even prep it for a new install get back to us Mike

Re: DBAN and OS installation both failed
thank you for your concerns. Currently, i am not able to use my computer because DBAN wiped out everything, even the os. However,i cannot install the os because of certain hardware failure. My hd is fujitsu MHT2080AT.

Re: DBAN and OS installation both failed
hello ,
i agree with (sobeitt666) on the tools for you drive now ( killdisk) is a free program that you can download on the system that you are using and burn a bootable cd or floppy and use on your system that is having issues & to finish wiping it so you can do your fresh install the link that i gave you has all the instructions to work this program with but get the tools for your harddrive and test it to see if it is even worth wiping for it may be corrupted beyond repair /but i bet it can be saved !!! get back to us Mike

Re: DBAN and OS installation both failed
I just replaced the hard drive, oddly, it didn't come w/ an driver installation disc of any kind. This time when I tried to install windows, it finished the NTSF formatting part and got BSOD with the "IRQL-NOT-LESS-OR-EQUAL". I am desperate.
