Please Help! A30 Wont start

Hi I have looked everywhere for information on someone else having the same problem as me but with no luck on an answer.

I have a Toshiba A30 Laptop with a power-up problem.

When I press the power button, the laptop fans fire up as if its going to start but then just goes off 3 seconds later.

It switches on and off 10 times before stopping altogether untill I press the power button again

*I have checked the power supply and the battery and they are both fine.
*I have re-seated the memory
*I have re-seated the processor and heatsink

I have even taken the whole thing apart and put it back together again!

I found one other guy on here (link bellow) who had the same problem but there were no real answers on his post.

http://www.techsupportforum.com/hard...-screw-up.html

Please help if you know what this on & off 10 times thing means.

I cant find any info on on/off codes anywhere either.

Cheers in advance guys/girls
Nik

Re: Please Help! A30 Wont start

If it would be a dell computer, then after 10 times it usually indicates that there is a bad memory chip, we have these here all the time, but since it is an A30 toshiba, try and see if it will work with a different memory chip from another laptop.

Thank you
Alex

Re: Please Help! A30 Wont start

Thanks powerjackrepair. I have 2 256 memory sticks in it and I have swapped them around in every order possible but I will try some memory from a friends laptop.

The only other thing I can think of is the dreaded BIOS!

Yeah its as it should be. Its not like a overheating thing because its only on for 2-3 seconds. It doesnt even get a chance to switch on the screen.

Re: Please Help! A30 Wont start

What would the machine do if the bios was damaged or wiped?

Would it still switch on and get to a certain point then freeze or would it not know what to do when you press the power button?

I think there is something in this on/off 10 times thing. I have sent an email to toshiba tech support to see if they have any ideas. Failing that I think it might be a new motherboard.

Re: Please Help! A30 Wont start

if it was the bios it would not do anything
the on and off i could find nothing on
when it turns off immediately you suspect a short
when it's 2-3 seconds it usually indicates cpu o/heat because that's all it takes

Re: Please Help! A30 Wont start

Hi again. I have contacted Toshiba and all they can come up with is "a power supply fault or systembard fault"

Does anyone know where I can get a schematic for the motherboard?
I could then find out what voltages should be where.

The board info is:

K000013790
DFL10
LA-2051 Rev:1.0
2003-12-01
Made in taiwan
vendor: ACCL

Cheers, Nik.
