inspiron 1200 cd drive faulty

hello new on here.Disc drive seems to load but will not read discs,drive makes a whirring noise then nothing! many thanks

It could definitely be faulty indeed. Do you have any warranty from dell? If yes, give them a call and see if you can get it replaced. if not, It will be pricey if you buy the drive from dell.

Now if you know how to open up a laptop and replaced the part, check out www.impactcomputers.com and buy the drive from there and replace it yourself. good luck.

thanks i went into device manager there is a ! mark next to device
it also comes up with error code 37 'windows cannot initialise driver for this hardware (PHILIPS CDRW/DVD SCB 5265)

It suggested uninstaling then re installing hardware but no change
