Is this a problem? ( Power adapter)

I recently purchased a Acer Aspire 4315 but whenever i plug it into the mains after about 5 mins the power adapter starts to let out a constant high piched whine and starts to get very hot. After a while it starts to smell a bit like its burning.

The burning smell could just be dust burning from the heat. but is the noise and heat normal?

Thanks for your time.

Re: Is this a problem? ( Power adapter)

Your acer adapter will get quite warm but i think from what you have described there is a unnessary load on the adapter does your laptop battery charge and does the laptop work when you have this problem,i think you should get a new adapter before this one causes a fire, and that high pictched whine is caused buy the switching transistor in the adapter being over loaded, do not use your adapter, and do not try to repair it get a new one keep us posted on what happens with the new adapter, you can find them on ebay fairly cheap.
