New Toshiba gets black screen?

This is my second Toshiba Satellite laptop in as many months and occassionally it just goes dead; I can be working in a document and the screen turns black--no advance warning, no error message--just the black screen of death. My first laptop did the same thing and I returned it to Best Buy no problem. Now this laptop is doing the same thing. The LCD lights are on so there is adequate power and it has happened with AC and DC power. I have to turn it back on and it reboots just fine. Anyone heard of this issue recently?

Re: New Toshiba gets black screen?

I had the same issue. After some extensive digging, I found out that this is a problem with A and P series 200 and 205's. Once I read that, I boxed up my laptop and traded it in for one from a different company. Sure enough, the guy at the Geek Squad desk admitted that he had seen this too and confirmed that they knew what I had read; no one knows exactly what this is and so they don't know how to fix it.

Re: New Toshiba gets black screen?

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have a A210/A215 series. Do you think the same issue applies to this series also? Seems so.

Re: New Toshiba gets black screen?

Very posible. My stance just came down to; I'm doing everything right as the user (do updates from MS and manufacturer, use a chill pad, use only trusted programs and sites, etc.) and this thing is having issues, it is going back.

It obviously doesn't hit all of the Toshibas, but it is enough different models that the only constant is the case and various unnamed parts. The software works well on other systems, so it isn't that.
