Inspiron 6000 Power Problems
My Inspiron 6000 laptop has been randomly shutting down for the past month and a half.
While the laptop will power on when the adapter is plugged in, if I take the battery out it only comes on for a second. Similarly, if I do not plug it in and try to run it just on battery power it does not work. I need the laptop to be plugged in and still have the battery in. It usually starts working again if I take out the battery and unplug the computer, wait (30 minutes to an hour), and then put it back in. However, it has been shutting down more frequently than before. I cannot tell if there is a problem with the battery, adapter, or motherboard. My warranty with Dell was up a year ago and I do not want to pay over a $100 for a call. Also, there was a battery recall on my comp and they have not sent it in 2 months, even though they said it would take 20 days. I do not want to buy any new parts, or fix anything on the computer, if the cost is going to be hundreds of dollars. In that case I will just buy a new one. What should I do? Re: Inspiron 6000 Power Problems
Why was the batteries recalled for that laptop, the problem you are having could have something to do with the battery, the shut downs could be caused by a fault on the mainboard or it could be over heating, you could wait and see if the new battery solves your problem, this is the link to the service manual for the inspiron 6000http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6000/en/index.htm
i hope this helps let us know what happens. just copy and paste the link into your browser Last edited by loudnproud59; 02-04-2008 at 09:40 PM. |

Re: Inspiron 6000 Power Problems
I finally got my recall battery, and bought a new adapter as well. The computer is working now, except that I can tell the connection of my adapter to my computer is still kind of bad because the power source changes depending on how its wiggled/pushed. I'm making it work so far...but don't know if this will be a permanent solution.
Thanks for your help thus far! |

Re: Inspiron 6000 Power Problems
You should get your power jack on your lap top fixed or replaced or you could damage the mainboard and that could be very costly, you can probably find a replacement power jack on ebay and do the repair yourself.
