battery only charges when laptop is off
It's a Toshiba satellite. I've seen the other posts about a loose jack, but no amount of jiggling helps. Every few hours, while running off ac, the battery starts draining. It's still receiving ac power, while it's draining, and then I'm left with a dead battery. It will run for about a half hour before it shuts down spontaneously and starts charging the battery. The power supply is sending 15.3 volts instead of 15, but I couldn't see an extra 3/10 making a difference. Thanks!

Re: battery only charges when laptop is off
What is the model number, just by reading your post it looks to be a mainboard power and charging circiut problem, you said that it will shut down in half hour after battery is dead and your ac adapter is still plugged in to the laptop is this correct.

Re: battery only charges when laptop is off
It's an m55-s3512 . It just drained and shut down. I pulled the battery out, and I'll see if it shuts down. I haven't it for a while, but from what I remember, it will spontaneously shut down.

Re: battery only charges when laptop is off
The shut down can be caused by over heating.does the battery hold a good charge when it is fully charged you could have a bad battery thats causing the draining problem,if you battery is good then your power or charging circiut on the mainboard is causing this problem.

Re: battery only charges when laptop is off
I think your mainboard is the problem, again it could be over heating and shutting down, it could be your cpu or your intel chipset that is over heating and if that is not the problem then it will be the mainboard it self that is causing the shut downs hope this will narrow it down for you,you might want to get a service manual for the laptop in case you want to dismantle it yourself, good luck and keep me posted on what happens.
