Question Whats wrong - display or HD or BIOS?

My 1yr banged his hands on the laptop keyboard. Since then I do not see anything on the display. The status display panel indicator (there is small LCD display which shows some sysmbols, mainly the battery) shows hard-disk/CDROM drive being accessed. I can hear the hard-disk drive being accessed. I do not see even BIOS.
Is it the display/monitor gone? - I tried connecting external monitor, I don't see anything.
Is it that hard-disk is gone? - I tried booting with floppy or CD, it doesn't boot. I can't see BIOS.
Is the BIOS gone? - then why do I see the hard-disk/CDROM drive being accessed in status display panel indicator.

Or something silly happened and I am not able to figure it out.

I tried pressing F1 to F12 and Fn key+F1 to F12. No luck.
Any ideas?

It's a old Dell laptop model No: TS30H
Inspiron 3200 D266XT
I had windows professional running on it.

Thanks
