Blue screen error...

hi, ive had a blue screen error a couple of times that restarts the system and then gives the following tech info upon reboot.

a hp pavilion laptop
dual core 1.8ghz turion 64
1 gb ram
and 120gb hd
nvidia graphics, 128mb i think.

my operating system is xp.

BCCode : c2 BCP1 : 00000007 BCP2 : 00000CD4 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 85CD5E30 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

ive noticed no trends in the screen occurance or any particular programs it does it on or anything. Its appeared about 5 times since its purchase in november last year.

i wouldnt say theyre getting more frequent either.

any help appreciate thank you very much x

Re: Blue screen error...

did this today after I put the lid down to hibernate the laptop.

(this hasnt happened since I posted last on this thread, so it is infrequent but still a problem)

the blue screen read;

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as shadowing and caching. If you need to use safe mode press f8.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x0000000A (0Xfffffffc, 0x0000001c, 0x00000000, 0x80501977)

Contact system administrator for support or assistance.

what can i do/what does this mean?

thanks x

Thumbs Up Re: Blue screen error...

Most probably you installed an application/program that's not compatible with your operating system. I would recommend that you restore your OS back to last restore point created by it. If not then let me know. I'll look into it more and let you know.
Good luck.

Re: Blue screen error...

Hi,

try Memtest86+ diagnostics to test your RAM. Download the ISO and burn to CD. Boot from that CD (yes, CD is bootable) and diags will start. Run 2 passes for each RAM stick (if you have 2 sticks installed, remove one and test the other).

Re: Blue screen error...

try NOT to boot from HDD but from a floppy or CD drive. use linux live CD (i.e Knoppix, PCLinuxOS, Ubuntu). better if you can totally remove the hard drive or change boot order in BIOS to make it boot from CD drive.

guide on how to remove your HDD (harddrive)? D/load the service manual for your model (from maker's website or search in Google). so why do we want to boot from CD and not the hard drive? this is to know if the harddrive is causing the error or not.

i take the hard drive out, then what? yes, or change boot sequence in BIOS settings; then use linux live CD or XP installer to boot from CD.

boot from the windows cd on to normal windows? just boot with CD but not to proceed to normal windows.

Re: Blue screen error...

Hi again,

how many RAM sticks are installed currently? do you have a spare lying around that you can still use?

do you still get the BugCheck (BCCode...) message?

if you still get the same BCCode message, try using a different RAM stick or try it one module at a time (if you have 2 modules installed).

Btw is this still under warranty? if it is, may be opening it up would void the warranty. i suggest you claim/have it repaired under warranty instead.

Re: Blue screen error...

no, i dont have any spare memory. the screen only comes on like once every 3 months or something like that frequency, so its not a crippling problem. I think the warranty ran out a few months ago.
