Tecra 8200 light goes down when working on the battery

When I use my Toshiba Tecra 8200 laptop with (the brand new) battery, the light goes down on the screen making it almost impossible to work with. I use windows XP. I havn´t found any settings to adjust this - anybody knows what to do?

you need to press the fn key and the f7 key

Thank you, but Fn-f7 did not work. Fn-f5 worked temporarily, but after 15 seconds it went down again.
