Power issues, need help please.
I am having power issues with my Dell inspiron 1000 notebook. I have had it for a few year and no problems. About 6 months ago, we bought a new desktop and I sat the notebook aside and have not used it since. I want to start using it again and now I am having problems. When I go to turn it on, nothing happens. So I thought it was the battery so I tried to charge it. Would not take a charge. When I plug the ac adapter into the wall the light on th cord is green, but when I plug it into the computer, the light on the cord will flash. What could be the problem. Thanks for the help.

Re: Power issues, need help please.
Well it could be the ac adapter that has failed or you have a problem on the mainboard power circuit, what you should do is find another ac adapter and see if this will work you can find them on ebay they are cheaper to purchase that way, that is the only way you will know if one or the other has failed, hope this helps, let us know what happens either way.

Re: Power issues, need help please.
Thanks for the help. I forgot to mention that I also ordered a new battery to see if that was the problem. I'll order a new ac adapter and try that also. If its a problem on the mainboard power circuit, what do I do about fixing it?

Re: Power issues, need help please.
Well if it is the mainboard power circuit the cost to repair it would be quite exspensive your best bet would be to look on ebay for a new mainboard they cost around $110 and up.

Re: Power issues, need help please.
still waiting on battery, should have been here friday. DHL took it to the wrong street
. Got another question. Before I stopped using it, I was having problems with the LCD screen. My dog knocked the computer off the coffee table and everytime I would go to adjust the screen it would go black but computer would stay on. What could this problem be? Thanks.Andrew |

Re: Power issues, need help please.
It could be a loose connection where the lcd plugs in to the mainboard or your lcd back light could have a loose connection or the inverter is failing you woud have to dismantle the lcd to be sure, there is no service manual for this laptop so you can use the inspiron 1200 or 2200 manuals they are simular in design this laptop is considered a throw away if it can not be repaired, ebay is the only place to find used parts, hope this helps let us know how it goes

Re: Power issues, need help please.
Finally got my new battery and ac adapter and the computer is still not doing anything. As soon as I plug the cord into the computer the light on the cord goes out. What do I do now? Thanks for the help.

Re: Power issues, need help please.
If the light on the adapter goes out when you plug it into the laptop there is most likely a mainboard power circiut fault as i said this laptop is dell's low end they are excellent when they run but soon as you have a problem you either try to find parts or buy a new laptop, you can look on ebay for a mainboard that would be your best bet ,i myself have one sitting right here with a bad board,i do not think that repairing the board is worth the money you will have to spend.let me know how it goes, there is a mainboard on ebay under laptop motherboard for a buy it now price of $125.00 US not including shipping.
